Sebastian is an academic and practicing architect based in Catalunya and Mallorca, Spain.

Originally from England, he has lived in Spain for 20 years and trained at the University of Cambridge UK and Barcelona School of Architecture (ETSAB-UPC). While developing his practice Harris Architects & Designers, he wrote his doctoral thesis on drawing and place in contemporary architectural design (Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya, 2016).

He has taught across disciplines relating to architectural design, representation and theory; Smart Cities, urbanism and artificial Intelligence; and Sustainability and design thinking.

 His teaching combines both practical workshops and theory, he has recently given workshops with RCR architects, at the Venice Biennale and at the Instituto Europeo de Diseño, Barcelona.

 He teaches Architectural Representation and Architectural history at La Salle School of Architecture, Barcelona. He also directs Masters degree dissertations in Smart Cities, Creativity in Artificial Intelligence and Circular design.

Architectural experience

Director of Harris Architects & Designers since 2014, his practice focuses on residential work in Mallorca and Catalonia.

In both new building and reformation work, designs concentrate on close connection to place through form, material and spatial sequence and narrative.

Sustainability has been integral to this approach, both through incorporating traditional building methods with new technologies and through working with local materials and local craftsmen. The self-sufficient house in a fig orchard was awarded the Mallorca Architecture Prize in 2010.

Teaching experience

Sebastian teaches architecture, sustainability and about cities. He has taught at Master’s and undergraduate levels at a variety of architecture, design and business schools in Barcelona. His teaching combines both practical workshops and theory.

He is currently a lecturer at La Salle School of Architecture, Barcelona (URL) and Masters Thesis supervisor at ESADE Business School, Barcelona (URL).
